RME HDSPe AIO Pro - 30-Channel 192kHz PCIe Audio Interface Card
The HDSPe AIO Pro is RME's fully reworked successor to the popular HDSPe AIO, a single PCI Express card that brings ADI-2 Pro-grade analog conversion, comprehensive multi-format digital I/O, and a powerful headphone output directly inside your computer.
Designed for studio and broadcast professionals who want the lowest possible latency and the tightest system integration, it eliminates the need for an external interface entirely while delivering performance that rivals standalone units.
WHY BUY THE HDSPe AIO PRO OVER A USB INTERFACE? CLICK TO FIND OUT.
The HDSPe AIO Pro addresses a specific need: maximum performance and minimum latency for a studio built around a desktop computer, without the compromises of an external USB or Thunderbolt connection.
No USB overhead, no cable, no external PSU. The card communicates directly with the CPU over PCIe, the fastest, most direct path available on a desktop PC. There's no USB protocol stack, no driver negotiation over a cable, and no external power supply to manage. In a fixed studio setup, this simplicity translates to rock-solid reliability.
ADI-2 Pro converters for the price of an interface. The AK5572 and AK4490 processors used here are flagship-grade chips. Getting them in a PCIe card format with SNR figures of 117 dB and THD at -114 dB represents exceptional value compared to what you'd pay for equivalent conversion quality in a standalone unit.
Output flexibility that covers any monitoring setup. The switchable output levels up to +24 dBu balanced are unusual even among high-end interfaces. Studios running mastering monitors at +24 dBu reference levels, or broadcast facilities with specific line level requirements, can configure the AIO Pro to match their signal chain exactly without padding or level matching in the analogue domain.
A headphone output that's actually a separate device. The dedicated DA converter for the headphone output means monitoring through headphones doesn't compete with the main outputs for converter resources. The 730 mW output power at 32 Ω is a serious headphone amplifier built into the card.
Everything works at once. ADAT, AES/EBU, and SPDIF are all simultaneously active - no switching between digital formats. For post-production or broadcast setups with multiple digital devices connected, this removes a significant workflow limitation found on many competing cards.
RME's long-term driver support. As with all RME products, the HDSPe AIO Pro benefits from in-house driver development that follows OS updates promptly. PCIe cards in fixed studio installations particularly benefit from this as the card can remain in service across multiple Windows and macOS generations without compatibility concerns.
In Summary:
- ADI-2 Pro converter chips (AK5572/AK4490) - flagship-grade AD/DA in a PCIe card
- Native PCIe with no bridge chip, lowest possible latency and maximum stability
- All digital formats (ADAT, AES/EBU, SPDIF) active simultaneously, no switching
- Balanced output levels up to +24 dBu - covers any professional monitoring setup
- Dedicated headphone DA converter with 730 mW output
- Mute relay prevents power-on noise on all analog outputs
- TotalMix FX runs on the card's own FPGA - zero CPU load for routing and mixing
- Optional TCO module adds LTC/video timecode sync for post-production and broadcast
- RME's in-house drivers ensure long-term OS compatibility
ADI-2 Pro Converters Inside a PCIe Card
The AIO Pro is built around the same AK5572 AD and AK4490 DA reference processors used in RME's flagship ADI-2 Pro converter. This isn't a budget-grade chip implementation, the analogue input circuit design is taken directly from the ADI-2 Pro, with four switchable input sensitivity settings (+24/+19/+13/+4 dBu).
Analogue I/O & Output Levels
The AIO Pro offers a stereo balanced analogue input and output at up to 192 kHz. A key upgrade over the standard AIO is the extended output level range. It covers everything from consumer gear to professional mastering monitors operating at +24 dBu reference levels.
A dedicated hardware attenuator in the output section improves SNR at lower reference levels and reduces output impedance, meaning the card actively optimises its analogue performance based on the chosen output level.
A mute relay on all analogue outputs prevents crackling noise when the computer powers on or off.
Note: The AIO Pro ships with RCA/phono breakout cables as standard, which are unbalanced. The optional XLR breakout cable (sold separately) enables fully balanced operation with XLR connectors and a Neutrik locking TRS jack for the headphone output.
Headphone Output
The AIO Pro includes a dedicated high-power headphone output with its own separate DA converter and playback device, independent from the main analogue outputs. It delivers up to 730 mW per channel into 32 Ω with just 0.1 Ω output impedance, making it capable of driving virtually any headphone directly from the card.
Two output levels are available: Hi-Power (+19 dBu, SNR 117 dB) and Lo-Power (+7 dBu, SNR 113 dB), with the mute relay ensuring clean switching between states.
Digital I/O
All digital formats operate simultaneously, there is no trade-off between connections:
- ADAT optical (TOSLINK): 8 channels at 48 kHz, 4 channels at 96 kHz, 2 channels at 192 kHz via S/MUX4
- AES/EBU (XLR, transformer-balanced): up to 192 kHz, Consumer and Professional format
- SPDIF (RCA, transformer-balanced): up to 192 kHz, Consumer and Professional format
Having AES/EBU and SPDIF operational simultaneously is a notable advantage for broadcast and studio setups where both formats may be in use at the same time.
SteadyClock FS
The AIO Pro incorporates RME's full SteadyClock FS circuit, with jitter suppression exceeding 50 dB at 2.4 kHz across all clock modes - internal, ADAT, SPDIF, and the optional word clock/LTC input via the TCO module. In a computer environment where clock signals can be noisy and unstable, SteadyClock FS ensures the converters always receive a clean, stable time reference regardless of what's happening elsewhere in the system.
TotalMix FX
The AIO Pro runs TotalMix FX with a 760-channel mixer at 42-bit internal resolution, entirely on the card's own FPGA hardware. Every input and playback channel can be routed to any output independently, with per-channel EQ, dynamics, reverb, and delay.
The card also supports the optional ARC USB hardware remote for hands-on physical control of TotalMix FX without touching a keyboard or mouse.
Native PCIe - No Bridge Chip
The AIO Pro uses a native PCI Express implementation with no PCIe-to-PCI bridge chip. This is significant as bridge chips introduce latency and can cause stability issues. By going direct to the PCIe bus, RME achieves the lowest possible latency and the most stable data transfer, with the full bandwidth of the PCIe lane available to the card at all times.
