The Mic Preamp That Belongs On Your Pedalboard — Eventide MixingLink, 48V Phantom Power, FX Loop, DI Output, 65dB Clean Gain
The Eventide MixingLink is a stompbox-format mic preamp and FX loop interface designed to connect microphones, instruments, and line-level sources to guitar pedal chains, amplifiers, headphones, and balanced DI outputs. A high-gain, low-noise mic preamp with 48V phantom power provides up to 65dB of clean gain — enough for ribbon microphones and low-output dynamics alongside standard condensers. The instrument input accepts guitar, bass, and other instrument-level sources at +10dBu with 500kΩ impedance. A balanced line input handles +24dBu for synthesisers, keyboard outputs, and other line-level equipment.
An effects loop send/return routes the signal to external pedals and returns it to the signal path, with the footswitch providing latching or momentary bypass of the FX loop for live performance effects toggling. The Mix control provides three modes: 100% dry with the FX blend mixed in; a variable Mic/FX balance; and 100% FX with no dry signal. The outputs cover every practical use case: a balanced XLR DI/line output switchable between DI level (-10dBu) and line level (+18dBu) for mixer and interface connection; a 6.35mm amplifier output at +10dBu for stage amplifiers and monitoring; a headphone output with 150mW per channel supporting loads from 8 ohms; and a 3.5mm auxiliary out at mobile mic level for connection to phone recording apps. An auxiliary stereo input at 3.5mm accepts playback from phones and tablets for practising against backing tracks.
Application Range
The MixingLink's I/O flexibility supports applications beyond standard vocal FX. For re-amping, the balanced line input receives a direct-recorded DI signal from a DAW interface, and the amplifier output feeds a guitar amplifier for miking. As an A/B box, the instrument input and amplifier output route one instrument between two destinations. As a compact mixer, multiple sources via the instrument, line, and aux inputs are summed to the amplifier or headphone output. For hotel practice, a guitar connects via the instrument input, a phone via the aux input for backing tracks, and headphones to the monitor output. The MixingLink has been used by engineers including Joe Chiccarelli (U2, Elton John), Tony Visconti (Bowie, T. Rex), and Vance Powell (Jack White) as a stage and studio routing tool.
