Vintage Mk 1.5 Two-Transistor Fuzz Reimagined With Silicon Precision, Modern Stability & Exceptional Low Noise – Vox VFZ-1 Fuzz Pedal.
The Vox VFZ-1 revisits one of the most influential fuzz circuits of all time — the classic two-transistor Mk 1.5 design of the late 1960s. After extensive analysis of prized vintage units, Vox engineers developed a Silicon-based circuit that retains the harmonic sweetness and musical interdependence of the finest originals, with each transistor biased at a precisely calculated operating point. The result is a fuzz that is aggressive yet refined, dynamic yet stable, and exceptionally quiet — combining timeless Germanium-like tone with modern reliability.
The VFZ-1's high input impedance solves one of the classic fuzz circuit's biggest limitations, enabling full compatibility with buffered pedals and Wah pedals anywhere in the signal chain. Bass Cut adjusts low-end content entering the gain stages, Tone Cut rolls off high frequencies at the output, and the Crunch Switch instantly produces classic low-gain overdrive tones without touching the guitar's volume control — all in a compact, pedalboard-friendly enclosure powered by standard 9V.
Vox VFZ‑1 Fuzz & VTB‑1 Treble Booster Overview...
Authentic Germanium Character From Silicon Precision
Through extensive analysis of prized vintage Mk 1.5 units, Vox engineers identified the precise transistor biasing that allows two Silicon transistors to interact in the same musical, interdependent way as the finest original Germanium circuits. The result is liquid sustain, mid-rich presence and dynamic touch sensitivity — with rock-solid stability, consistent temperature performance and exceptionally low noise that vintage units simply cannot match.
High Input Impedance & Modern Pedalboard Compatibility
Classic fuzz circuits are notoriously sensitive to input impedance, causing tonal interaction with buffered and Wah pedals. The VFZ-1 solves this with unusually high input impedance, allowing it to be placed anywhere in the signal chain without compromising tone — a significant practical advantage on modern pedalboards.
Crunch Switch, Bass Cut & Tone Cut
Bass Cut adjusts low-end content entering the gain stages — ideal for humbuckers or tightening up for rhythm work. Tone Cut rolls off high frequencies for smoother, warmer tones or the iconic violin fuzz sound. The Crunch Switch instantly delivers the low-gain overdrive tones that vintage fuzzes produce with the guitar volume rolled back, without touching the guitar's controls.
