Celemony Melodyne 5 Editor contains everything included in Melodyne 5 Assistant — the full monophonic vocal editing toolkit, sibilant detection, Audio-to-MIDI, chord detection, and correction macros — and adds Melodyne's patented DNA (Direct Note Access) algorithm for polyphonic audio. DNA technology identifies individual notes within chordal instruments, ensembles, and full mixes, giving direct access to pitch, timing, and other musical parameters of each note independently, even when multiple notes are sounding simultaneously. This makes it possible to correct a single out-of-tune note within a guitar or piano chord, adjust the internal balance of a vocal harmony recording, or reharmonise a polyphonic sample to fit the chord progression of a different song, all without re-recording the source material.

Editor also introduces tempo editing, allowing the rhythmic character of a recording to be adjusted independently of pitch — tightening loose timing, adding swing, or matching the tempo feel of one recording to another.
