Laney Black Country Customs 85 – Bass Interval Guitar Pedal
The Electro-Harmonix Ram's Head Big Muff Pi is a faithful recreation of the original 1973 Violet Ram's Head Big Muff, delivering the unmistakable articulate string separation and exceptional sustain that made the V2 circuit so sought after. Three simple controls — Volume, Tone, and Sustain — provide access to the pedal's full range: Volume sets output level, Tone shifts the balance from deep bass through to high treble, and Sustain adjusts the amount of gain and distortion. The reissue is housed in a tough, pedalboard-friendly die-cast chassis and adds a handful of practical updates over the original — true bypass switching for a transparent signal path when the effect is off, and a status LED that shows at a glance whether the pedal is engaged.
The circuit itself is built around four silicon transistors: the first acts as an impedance matcher and gain stage, followed by two identical clipping stages in series using diodes around the transistor to produce the characteristic Ram's Head clipping. This particular circuit sits tonally between classic vintage fuzz and heavier distortion, delivering long, singing sustain while retaining genuine note separation even on dense chords — the quality that has made it such an enduring reference point for players across five decades.
