The Ibanez TOD10N Tim Henson Signature is a hybrid nylon-string acoustic-electric guitar developed in collaboration with Polyphia's Tim Henson, built on a distinctively thin FRH hollow body construction with a solid Sitka spruce top, fan bracing, and solid sapele back and sides. Unlike a conventional classical guitar, the TOD10N has no soundhole on the top — only a small truss rod access port — with an oval sound port positioned on the upper body side instead, delivering a more direct, immediate acoustic feel to the player while significantly reducing feedback at performance volume.
The C-shaped nyatoh neck carries a 22-fret walnut fingerboard with the signature "Tree of Death" thorned vine and rose inlay, a nod to Ibanez's classic Tree of Life design reinterpreted for Henson's aesthetic. A narrow 46mm nut width and a tight 400mm (15.75") fingerboard radius give the neck a fast, electric-guitar feel that suits players crossing over from solid-body instruments. The walnut bridge, compensated bone saddle, and gold classical-style tuners round out the acoustic build. Onboard, a Fishman Sonicore pickup paired with the Ibanez AEQ210TF preamp — featuring 2-band EQ, a phase switch, and a built-in digital tuner — delivers a clean, natural amplified voice with practical feedback control for stage and studio use. Finish: Transparent Black Flat, with pearloid body binding.
Thin Hollow Body And Side Sound Port
The most significant departure from a traditional classical guitar is the body construction. A max body depth of just under 2 inches, combined with the absence of a top soundhole, gives the TOD10N a genuinely different playing position and feedback profile from any standard nylon-string instrument. The side-mounted sound port lets the player hear and feel the guitar's natural acoustic tone directly, while the closed top significantly reduces the risk of feedback that a conventional soundhole would introduce at higher stage volumes — a genuine practical advantage for a signature model designed around a touring, amplified use case.
Fishman Sonicore And AEQ210TF Electronics
The Fishman Sonicore under-saddle pickup is widely used across nylon and steel-string acoustic-electrics for its accurate, uncoloured translation of the instrument's natural voice. Paired with Ibanez's own AEQ210TF preamp, the TOD10N gets 2-band EQ control, a phase switch for further feedback management, and a built-in tuner — giving a complete, self-contained live rig without needing outboard DI processing to sound stage-ready.
